Autumn Term 1 - All About Me

Autumn Term 1 - All About Me

This is possibly the most exciting term for your child, as they start school for the first time!

We will spend a lot of this term getting to know your child and their family, and let them get to know us too! A key part of this term will be spent learning routines and expectations, and of course making friends and enjoying lots of explorative play.

We begin to formally teach Phonics (reading and writing) through Little Wandle
We encourage that this learning is shared at home by sending home sound books so that you can practice writing and saying the new sounds learnt together with your child. Your child will also take home a Reading Practice Book and a Reading for Pleasure book to share with you, continuing the learning journey towards independent reading that children in our Little Acorns nursery class have already begun. Do check out the Phonics link below which shows how to correctly pronounce the sound the children are learning this term.

Children will also begin to participate in practical and playful Maths sessions from White Rose Maths, which is our school's chosen Mathematics Programme of learning.

We also have lots of inspirational activities for your child to participate in too, such as creating self-portraits in paint (inspired by Van Gogh), collage, colour mixing with paint, exploring using our senses and creating an 'All About Me' box.

We also begin to teach RE through stories, and the teaching of our Christian values, which are also shared in weekly assemblies. This Term's Christian Value is 'Friendship.'

We learn lots of songs and rhymes too and of course, we participate in lots of outdoor play and learning in our wonderful conservation area and sensory garden.
We LOVE books in Little Oaks!
Every term we have a great selection of carefully chosen books to inspire and delight your children.
The books are chosen to link to our termly Topics and of course, to reflect the interests and fascinations of the children. Also, simply because we feel there are some books that are too good to miss!
Some of our favourite books that we will become very familiar with this term this term are highlighted in the photos below.
